How to connect to a server via RDP

1 min read

To connect to a Windows server, you can use any RDP client. Here's a step-by-step process to help you connect to a remote server:

Step 1: Obtain Access Rights

The first step is to ensure that you have the necessary permissions to connect to the remote server. If you have the appropriate credentials and permissions to connect to the server, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Find an RDP Client

The second step is to find an RDP client program on your computer. If you are using Windows, the client is already installed in your operating system. You can locate it using the following methods:

  • Use Cortana search and type "Remote Desktop Connection"
  • Press Windows + R and enter "mstsc.exe" in the Run dialog.
  • Open the Start menu and find the "Remote Desktop Connection" application.
  • You can also use third-party RDP clients such as "TeamViewer," "AnyDesk," and others.
Step 3: Launch the RDP Client

Launch the RDP client, and it will open the "Remote Desktop Connection" window.

Step 4: Enter Server Details

Enter the server's name or IP address in the "Computer" field. If you don't know the server's name or IP address, contact the system administrator.

Step 5: Authenticate on the Server

Enter the credentials (username and password) provided by the server administrator.

Step 6: Establish the Connection

Click the "Connect" button to establish a connection to the remote server. As a result, you should gain access to the remote desktop of the Windows server.
